Scots hunk Emun Elliott is praying for laughs — after landing the lead role in Comedy Central’s first British sitcom.

The 27-year-old, from Edinburgh, is starring in Threesome, which starts on Monday night.

The US TV giants expect the new seven-part series to be a success and they have been billing it alongside hit comedies Two And A Half Men and Scrubs.

And the Threesome plot is even WACKIER than those of its Comedy Central stablemates.

Emun plays gay guy Ritchie, who ends up in a three-way romp with flatmate Mitch (Stephen Wight) and his girlfriend Alice (Amy Huberman).

But in a bizarre twist, Alice ends up pregnant after the drink and drug-fuelled fling — and RITCHIE is the dad.

Last night, Emun said: “The plot is racy, wacky and it’s not a safe comedy.

“It’s slightly controversial but that’s a good thing.

“Some people will really like it, some won’t.

“It’s better that people have an opinion on the show than no opinion at all.”

Emun — best known for playing sex-mad bad-boy architect Jay in BBC3 lesbian drama Lip Service — hopes his meticulous research for the latest role pays off.

He trawled gay pubs and clubs in Soho with the show’s gay creator Tom MacRae, 31, to prepare.

But Emun admits he had to rein in his character’s campness.

Emun said: “We had a few great nights and it was really enlightening. There’s a real openness and sense of community in these places.

“My character is hard to pin down and he’s not your typical gay guy.

“I tried not to act like a queen or the stereotypical gay man.

“He’s got very straight mannerisms, but the way he dresses gives it away I suppose.

“He doesn’t wear bright pink clothes and glitter — he’s just a well put-together chap.

“I tried to tame the campness. It’s more tongue-in-cheek.”

Female fans will be relieved to know Emun is NOT gay.

He got engaged to American actress Emily Fleischer, 22, last year.

The lovebirds met in New York in 2007 while Emun was starring in hit play Black Watch.

He said: “It’s funny because we met the night Sean Connery was there supporting the show.

“I’d been buzzing to meet him and then ended up meeting Emily. She had come to see the show and got lost afterwards on her way home.

“She came back to the theatre to ask for directions and that was that.”

He added: “Emily’s really excited about everything I’m doing and is always really supportive.

“She helps me get these jobs and she’s probably more excited than I am about everything that’s coming up.

“Emily’s only just graduated and lives in New York, so there’s a chance I could move over there in the future.”

Emun can’t believe he is about to take centre stage on Comedy Central, where Hollywood wildmen Charlie Sheen and Ashton Kutcher, 33, have reigned supreme. Two And A Half Men became one of the world’s biggest sitcoms with Sheen as its star, and Demi Moore’s love-cheat hubby Kutcher is now the main man.

Wall Street actor Sheen, 46, is expected to pocket a staggering £80million following his departure earlier this year following drug benders and a public blast against his bosses.

Emun said: “I’m nowhere near Charlie’s level of hell-raising — not yet anyway.

“My off-screen antics aren’t anything like his, but a night out with him would be wild.

“All this has been a long time coming for him, though. He’s been in the business for ages and that sort of thing can happen.

“I was a really shy kid and I suppose acting’s a way of facing that fear.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for guys like Charlie and Ashton.

“They are both successful blokes who’ve done really well in their careers and managed to survive in TV and movies for ages.

“If I can last that long, I’ll be delighted. I wouldn’t mind their salaries, either!”

Comedy Central is also the home of South Park and Friends, and Emun is feeling the pressure ahead of Monday’s episode. He said: “This is a massive risk for me because it’s the first comedy I’ve done.

“I don’t see myself as sticking to comedy for the rest of my career, but it’s a new challenge.

“It’s really exciting that Comedy Central have a lot of faith in us.

“Now it’s out of our control and we just have to hope it’s well received.”

Emun went to Aberdeen University at 17 before dropping out a year later to follow his acting dream.

He graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) in 2005.

Two years ago, he played Dr Christian King in BBC1 thriller Paradox and he also starred in Sky’s fantasy epic Game Of Thrones.

But his fondest memories are from Lip Service, where he got his kit off in a steamy sex scene.

Emun said: “There were definitely raunchier scenes than my one.

“Fair play to those girls, because I don’t think any of them are gay in real life.

“But they did a bloody brilliant job of just getting it done.

“I’m glad I’m keeping the flesh covered this time around.”
